Knife sharpening ‘how to’ 101

A good knife is an essential piece of kit for Forest School and bushcraft and knife sharpening is a skill that you need to learn. You can spend a fortune on knives claiming to be designed by the current ‘outdoorsy type de jour’ or you can be sensible and buy a Mora Companion knife. This will do the business for a tenth (or less) of the price of some of these designer knives.

However, the one thing in common with any knife, is that it will become useless unless you keep it sharp.

For a thorough knife sharpening ‘how-to’ guide look here – written and demonstrated by Paul Kirtley, a bushcraft instructor who learnt from Ray Mears, Lars Felt and others, so he knows what he’s on about.

So take a look and keep your sharps sharp!
