This is a great time to explore for conkers. If you’re tree ID needs some work, take a look at my Instagram posts of tree leaves orate a look at the the Tree Tools pages from the Woodland Trust’s website.
You’re looking for the Horse Chestnut tree (Aesculus hippocastanum is it’s scientific name!)
Huge hand and fingers shaped leaves and you’ll spot the bright green, spiky cases of the seeds (conkers) scattered on the ground around the tree and if your lucky some beautiful dark reddy brown chestnuts themselves.
Kids love collecting conkers, they’re beautiful to look at, very smooth and tactile and you can make great Conker Creatures with them too!
Hapy hunting!
