Over the weekend of 9-12 November 2018 I attended the High Borrans Outdoor Education Centre near Windermere in the Lake District in my role as Chair of Governors for King Edward PS, North Shields.
The activities were a mixture of walks in the hills surrounding the centre, caving near Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales, Ghyll Scrambling and canoeing on a nearby tarn.
The children were highly engaged and on one evening (when it wasn’t pouring with rain!) I and another Forest School trained staff member took the children outside for a campfire story telling session and sing-song with the obligatory marshmallow toasting.
It was a tiring but very enjoyable weekend and certainly better than the usual activities Governors have to undertake!
