This term has seen many different sessions, but the two that are proving the most popular are maps and directions and the Great Fire of London.
In the first the children use a real compass and recreate it on the yard in chalk and in later sessions we discuss 4 and 6 figure grid references using Ordnance Survey maps and recreate on grid square again on the yard in chalk.
The Great Fire of London session involves a chat about what the children have learnt so far and then recreating Pudding Lane on the school field and setting it on fire! The children are at a safe distance, but can feel the heat of the fire, smell the smoke and watch the flames leap from building to building!
