There is a pleasure in the pathless woods…

One of my favourite poems is by Byron – ‘Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage’.

I won’t reproduce the whole thing, but the opening paragraph is very apposite to my feelings about nature, learning outdoors and in particular in woodlands or by the coast.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,

There is a rapture on the lonely shore,

There is a society where non intrudes,

By the deep Sea, and music in its roar;
